Collectivism (Togetherness)
In Pakistan, people live in joint families. Parents, children, grandparents, uncles, and aunts often live in one house. For instance, in a village in Punjab, it’s common to see three generations living under one roof. This shows how people in Pakistan value family and togetherness.
Respect for Elders
Elders are respected a lot in Pakistani society. Children are taught from a young age to listen to and obey their parents and grandparents. Saying “Assalamu Alaikum” and kissing the hand of an elder is a common tradition, especially in rural areas.
Religious Influence
Islam plays a big role in the daily life of most Pakistanis. People pray five times a day, observe fasting in Ramadan, and celebrate Eid together. In Karachi or Lahore, for example, streets are filled with people going to mosques during Friday prayers. Religion shapes people’s behavior, family systems, and even laws.
Diversity
Pakistan is a diverse country. There are Punjabis, Sindhis, Baloch, Pashtuns, and many other ethnic groups. Each group has its own language, dress, food, and customs. In Sindh, you’ll see people wearing ajrak and sindhi caps, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, men wear pakol caps and speak Pashto.
Hospitality
Pakistanis are known for their hospitality. Guests are treated with honor and given the best food and place to sit. Even in poor areas like slums of Rawalpindi, hosts serve guests with tea and sweets, even if they don’t have much.
